Highly Respected Former Sauk County District Attorney Kevin Calkins Endorses Kirby For Sheriff

To the Residents of Sauk County,

During my over three decades of service as an Assistant District Attorney and District Attorney for Sauk County, I had the opportunity to work closely with many dedicated, law enforcement professionals.  Among, them, Aaron Kirby consistently distinguished himself as a knowledgeable, dependable, principled, and highly skilled leader.

Throughout his service with the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department – as a Jailer, Patrol Officer, Detective, and Patrol Sergeant, Aaron demonstrated a deep understanding of the criminal justice system and a commitment to doing the job the right way. I worked very closely with Aaron when he became the Drug Investigations Detective, and I was assigned to drug case prosecutions. I interacted with Aaron on a nearly daily basis during that time. His investigations, at all times, were detailed and thorough, a necessity for meeting the “proof beyond a reasonable doubt standard” required for criminal prosecution. His reports clearly communicated the facts of the case, and demonstrated sound judgment in the enforcement action taken, qualities that are essential to an effective partnership between the Sheriff’s and district Attorney’s offices,

Aaron has been guided by a strong sense of integrity and responsibility to the communities he served. His combined experiences in law enforcement, local government, and business ownership gives him a well-rounded perspective on the challenges facing our communities today. He understands public safety issues, not only from a law enforcement perspective, but also from the viewpoint of a community member invested in Sauk County’s success.

For these reasons, I heartily endorse Aaron Kirby for Sauk County Sheriff. His leadership, professionalism, real-life experiences, and commitment to justice will serve the citizens of Sauk County well.
